Voices of the Past
It is difficult to understand the strange draw and attraction I have for historical cemeteries. There is a very real sense of sorrow and loss for the people whose life’s path ended in these old, neglected, and decaying grave sites. How did these broken families survive the finality of death that separated them? As I spent time photographing these cemeteries I realized more and more how the images were a reflection of me. My mother left my family when I was barely two and these grave sites represent this grief and loss and the walls built up as protection from further pain. This documentary series of old cemeteries and lost lives is a mirror of the loss, grief, and abandonment embodied in me.
